Reborn again in the Gibraltar of the North...

We pass the hilly countryside of the Ardennes before we cross the border with the unique Grand Duchy Luxemburg. The city was built on a plateau, the Bockrock and surrounded by steep cliffs. Unfortunately not spared during times of war and became one of the strongest settlements in the world. Even today it is not so easy to become one of them, although the city is now more accessible thanks to the many impressive, necessary bridges that give us beautiful views.

People tell that in the old city there was a lack of water and therefore they became formidable beer- and winedrinkers, something that you can judge yourselves while having a nice lunch.

The small and inclined streets will lead us to our Lady’s Cathedral with its three towers that dominate the city. In her shadow you will find the neogothic cityhall on the Place Guillaume, where the first archduke Willem II waves towards the palace of the duke. While we can enjoy a schnaps on one of many pavement cafés on the Place d’Armes, a former parade ground of the troops, you can proceed by looking around or having a look in the nice boutiques. We descend the Kazematten, a maze of kilometres of subterranean tunnels carved out in the rocks.

At the end of the day you will understand why the elegant gentlemen Villeroy and Boch established their modest company in the Duchy of Luxemburg. Maybe you will find here some inspiration..
