A breathtaking holiday in the capital of East Flanders...
A detailled background history in the birthplace of the “noose carriers” will give you more perception of our program. You will never find so much history on a square meter. We enter the university city driving along the impressive harbour. From there we visit the pedestrian zone of the birth place of Charles V.
Unique masterpieces of the Flemish Primitives you will find everywhere in this “city of all times”.
Except from the world famous piece from the 15th century ‘The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’, this work is as well full of stories. The mystery of the theft of the ‘Righteous Judges’ is still unsolved. Maybe you will find an indication in the beautiful Saint Bavo’s Cathedral?
You will admire the beautiful medieval guildhouses along the ‘Graslei and Korenlei’, situated on the banks of the river Lys.
After approval of the dragon at the top of the belltower, we move on towards the Castle of the Counts, once upon a time a medieval castle of the counts of Flanders. Here we go back in times from the 21th century to the 14th century.
Lunch will be served on board of a barge on the “Golden River” (gold because of the flax-trade).
Our vessel will take us to the picturesque Latem, well known for the painters’ school of Latem, after that we go to the 16th century castle of Ooidonck, an example of Flemish-Spanish style.
You will definitely find peace in the perfect maintained French gardens before we escort you back to the hotel.
